PEOPLE

There are three of us who work full-time on the farm.

Luigi Fabbro was born in Friuli and grew up on a farm. He well remembers having to help his father in the vineyards as a boy. His father made a stunning grappa which we still keep in the house.
He travelled widely as a young man, had numerous adventures, learnt about software, the building of windmills, and Indian music amongst other things. For many years he has been working on a project in the Brazilian Amazon that involves the GPS mapping of biodiversity in the forest.
His great passion in life is viticulture and enology and his interest in biodynamics and permaculture find a home here and overlap with the knowledge he has been building up in the Amazon.
He has a daughter called Shani and a grandson called Leon who live in London.

His partner for the last 25 years, Katia Nussbaum, was born in London. She studied and took her degree in Social Anthropology before coming to live in Montalcino in 1985. She and Luigi have two sons, Daniel and Giulio. Katia happily taught in the local high school for many years but gave it up as wine and agriculture slowly took over her life. She never regrets leaving the city for her life in San Polino.

Alberto Gjilaska was born in Albania and studied agriculture and enology in Tirana. He was introduced to Luigi and Katia through mutual friends and came to work with them as they planted the first vines. He still works at San Polino as an absolutely untiring member of the team, also believing wholeheartedly in the development of a healthy agriculture, environment and, most importantly, the production of a healthy wine.
He has two young daughters, Giulia and Megi.
